Basically, it's legal to kill fur bearing animals that are being a nuisance by pretty much any means necessary without a license.

If you're gonna kill possums, racoons, and other pests, I'd recommend a semi-automatic rifle because these things tend to run in groups, particularly at night (I'm assuming you live in a more rural area). If you've got experience with firearms, try something chambered for.223 like an AR-15. I know it looks like a military rifle and that may make you uncomfortable, but the round (.223) is excellent for varmint work and the AR-15 has excellent accuracy and can accommodate optics and flashlights. If you don't want a "scary black rifle" then try the Mini-14. It's got more recoil and it's not as accurate and it's harder to mount accessories, but it'll get the job done.

If you don't really have any experience with guns, try a.22 like a ruger 10/22 or a smith and weson m&p 22. The m&p is basically an ar-15 chambered for.22 and has many of the same advantages. The ruger 10/22 is basically a.22 version of the mini-14.

These are nocturnal creatures for the most part, so you're gonna want to attach a flashlight to your weapon. Anything by streamlight or surefire should do.

Bait them with food and wait for it to get dark. It would be good to have a couple of friends with guns there with you in case there's a huge pack. Once the pests take the bait, open up on them. Try to get the big ones first because they're the breeders.

OR if you wanna have a lot of fun, get about 15-20 lbs of tannerite and do what these guys did.

I am having raccoon problems. and yes they can cause thousands of dollars in damage. we have sat up at night waiting to kill what we thought was just one small coon getting in our back enclosed porch.; they have tore the siding up along both corner walls and by the doors. when they get in the bk porch they are tearing my bk door to inside the house up to get in. but after waiting up to catch his ass we discover there are about 4 that size and about a pk of 10 abut the size of a bay panda bear like 30 to 40 lbs each. so legal or not I am catching them and shooting them off. the have tried attacking my dogs tore up my large outside garbage cans and destroyed my bird feeders outside. whats next? they have got to go!

I'm from the country and agree the pests should be kept at manageable levels. But when guys treat it as fun to creatively blow up living creatures rather than a necessarychore is kinda off putting. A spotlight & .22 should do the trick.

Well,if a raccoon or possum gets trapped in your property,you should call animal control.With most animals they kill them or let them go.We don't kill them.We only kill squirrels

Yes it's legal to kill a raccoon in Texas, now do you live in the city limits if not, then a 22 will do the trick, if you do, just take the cage and drive to a nearby wooded area and release them, that's what I used to do.

Ummmm... better not come to Texas, because you are kinda wrong... In Texas you can use force to keep someone or remove someone from your property, and if they fight back with force enough to cause you harm, you can then LEGALLY use deadly force ;)

I'm guessing these coons would try and tear you up for removing them from your property so lethal force is needed...

well you don't take in the fact that they ruined my feed troughs by eating the plastic to get to the feed. that's a $300 Feed trough so to replace it is a additional $300 + tax. round that out too $600

and they also bit my goat which was a additional $500 in medical cost due to rabies shots and stitches, which happens to be the mother of 2 other goats dependent on her milk. so in total it cost my $1,176 so yeah it can be costly. FYI

I already tried. they ruined my horse feed bins. and I would drive it 10 miles out but not only will it become someone elses problem but I just don't have the time
