Why would my ex say he needs to talk?

My ex said he wants to talk sometime this week. And now he’s got me sitting here wondering what the heck it’s about. It’s not fair man. My friend thinks he’s playing games and that he’s trying to string me along. But I’m concerned to see what it’s about. He’s kept in touch with me
for a year since our breakup. Also, how do I respond to this?
