What do you do when you want to break up with your boyfriend but he doesn't want to?

I wanted to break up with my boyfriend because we barely communicate or hang around each other anymore. He said"He said he will hang out with me more, he wants to marry me , he loves me and he's not prepared to break up with me." I really think we need a break, how can I convince him. He really doesn't want to break up

Thank you everyone ! He's deeply in love with me. I love him to. But, my fear was if I try to break up with completely, he would probably get mad. The "I'm not prepared to lose you yet " scared me. He lost two friend to gun violence thise year so that's why he said that.

Tell him what is wrong, break up and stay away from him. Don’t answer his texts or calls. Make
sure you tell a couple people close to you what is going on too just in case he gets creepy. Call the police if you wake up one night like I did with your pet disemboweled outside or if you sense anything alarming.
