Why would a guy keep looking at his ex's social media?

Me and my ex boyfriend got back together recently after a year of break up
We were together for 2 years

He was in another relationship after our breakup
But they didn't work out

He was scared to talk to me again but he end up messaging me
So we started talking
And then dating again

He told me:
"You know I always used to keep looking at your facebook profile few times a week.. to see if you're still single or have a new boyfriend"

Why would he do this when he was in a relationship before?

I think it's both in your case because you're back together. But it can be only curiosity, or just out of pettiness... you know, some people talk about "winning the break up" and want to see who's doing better after ending the relationship.
