Would you break up if your partner is meeting and texting their ex behind your back? He refused to show me their conversations?

My boyfriend was dumped by this girl before we met, and when I found out I asked him to promise me no to hurt me for the sake of this girl in the future and he promised. Two years later I found out he has met her twice behind my back and when I asked him to show me how much have they been talking? And what has he been telling her? And to at least tell her about me and about us, he told he will and then he never showed a proof of it. He also refused to cut contact with her and said "We are just friends"

I broke up with him, it was not the first time he badly breaks my trust anyway. Would you have felt the same?

I think you did the right thing. You told him ahead of time about how you felt about his ex. Then to find out his betrayal of that trust... nope. Sorry. Stickin' a fork in you, 'cause you're dun, dude.

It's bad enough he saw her. But he kept texting her and then refuses to show you. There's no reason to stick around with him.

In ANY relationship, trust is one thing that needs to be honored, regardless how difficult it may be. If it's broken and there's no immediate request to recover (forgiveness), then there's no reason to keep on going.

One last thing. You're not getting any younger. Wasting time with someone like this doesn't help you one bit - from any perspective (emotionally, mentally, or even physically). Glad you left him!

I would break up. Whether they cheat or not is irrelevant. To promise one thing and to knowingly and intentionally break that promise would cause me to lose trust. Obviously, if he just bumped into her at a grocery store while shopping and say hello, that would be understandable, as he did not intend to meet her. But I get the feeling that's not what happened here.
