My parents have been married for 16 years and my mum has been unhappy for most of it?

My mum wants a divorce but my dad has been saying that he doesn't want to break this 'happy' family. They fight everyday and hanging out around them is awkward as hell. I can't take it anymore, how do I just tell them to get a fucking divorce

Like someone else said it might help if you sat with them both and told them how it’s making you feel, how you see things being somewhat of an outside view, and that you think you could still be a happy family if they weren’t together, because this, the way it is now, isn’t a happy family and is only going to break things down further until it’s just not fixable at all.


That it’s time to get real, and raw. That what they have been doing, and trying is not working, and it’s time to find a new way. The only way you see things working is that they move onto a trial separation and see if that works, if that makes everyone feel less stressed, less anxious and more harmonious.


Give it a timeframe around how long to trial it for, and if you all come back after that timeframe and say how you all feel and what the next steps are.


It doesn’t mean you don’t see either of them in that timeframe. Hang out with mum, and dad, but separate, so they don’t feel like it’s a breakdown. That things still can go in and be happy.


Maybe this new normal can work, if you show them it can!

They should divorce, I grew up in a similar situation and it's really not good for the kids. My mother was the toxic one, not saying that my father was a good husband, but he wasn't the cause of all the fighting. It would have been easy to accept him as the flawed person he was. So I encourage that parents that can't get along, first of all not get children because they think it will change the relationship. But if they already have kids to separate. It's better to have two peaceful homes then one common in a war zone.
