My husband asked for a divorce but wants to separate for a month first will that help?

Will separation for a month make my husband want to work our marriage out? We’ve been together for 10 years, fought a lot and he felt smothered so agreed to separation before divorce. We had sex last night because he is still home and after sex he told me it was only temporary. I’m hurt and will do anything to make it work. Does separation help the marriage? Or is it just prolonging the divorce? Should I communicate with him while we separate?
