Guys, What do you think about this scenario?

I am writing a paper on divorce for a school assignment, and I wanted to get real opinions on what men think about this scenario I am writing about. Here's the scenario: A man has fallen in-love with a woman, but he is unhappily married to his wife of whom he has a 2-year child with. However, he is unsure if staying for the child's sake is the best option or if leaving is best overall since suffering for 16 more years would be detrimental to his mental health. He wants to be with the other woman who he has known for years, but he is faced with a tough decision. What is he most likely to choose? Why?

P. S. His wife cheated on him in the past.

As I read your your scenario I was preparing to respond that he should suck it up and try to make his marriage work for the sake of his child... until you said she had cheated in him. That's a deal breaker because the odds are she will do it again, and/r end up divorcing him, which will only do more damage to everyone involved.

The fact is half of marriages end in divorce, women initiate 70% - 80% of them and lack of commitment is the #1 reasons for most divorces. The odds of his marriage lasting under the circumstances you described are very small. I'd say he if he loves the other woman and believes he can make a happy life with her, he should file for divorce.

I've stayed for 28+ years.

I'm not in love with someone else and my wife never cheated on me, but it has been horrible.

I stayed because we have a son, now grown.

If she would have cheated and you fell in love with someone else, do you think it would have turned out differently?

Not if my son was already in the picture. He is priority#1.

I'm married with four kids. I'm lucky that I still love my wife hugely and we have a great sex life. I'm convinced I'd stay. I'm a child of divorced parents and it sucks. I'd choose the difficult path of staying over leaving.
