People are allowed requirements and boundaries in a relationship. For him, he requires having kids that are related to him by blood, so he is right to communicate that instead of wasting everyone's time. You are also right to try to talk to him about it and see if he'd be okay with adopted children, but I would respect his wish to divorce if that remains afterwards.

I know it sucks for you and is very painful, but it's for the best. You do not want to be with something unhappy and nor does he. For any future relationships, I'd let them know from the beginning that you are infertile now that you are aware of it.
