They are trying to find a way to get over the pain quicker and they try replacing, which is not something you can do with a person, it's a desperate measure to fill in the void that formed from the breakup and they try to make it better with someone else

People like this had either already checked out of their relationship mentally or wanted other women the whole time, maybe even cheated. I mean sure we could say it’s them avoiding the pain or whatever but it sure tells another story when you go to your ex’s page and see them all smiles with another woman.

In my experience that’s usually women. Guys have the pet died mentality. Get another as soon as possible.

It's also a practical approach: we don't live in the past, but in the 'now'... and for the future.
