Do you think staying friends with an ex is a good idea?

Speaking freshly out of a breakup of course, when emotions are still fresh, do you believe it's a good idea?

I've been long time friends with my first two exes and it has been not really an issue, all good...

but... to what you said, with the first one... right after we closed the cycle in good terms, we still took a few months apart, close to a year, but we knew we would reach again as friends... that was a better idea at the moment

with the second ex-girlfriend, we didn't take a "time apart" that was as long, and it wasn't planned but still happened, and I think this does help to ease things, yes...

now, with the later of my exes which are also recent ones... I am in good terms with them and we can friendly... but we are not as close friends as it is with those I've met when I was very young... it does feel very different, and it is not the same "vibe" as to remain too close of friends

we sort of planned it, because we were going to have very different plans for the future, so it only made sense

Fuck no, you should never become friends with an ex when the breakup has just occurred. That is how you prolong the shitty feelings that comes with a breakup.

Right now, I am friends with two exes of mine, but it has been a long time and I genuinely do treat them as a friend (meaning I can go months without talking and not care). Friendships like these are different too and not as solid, so you should not rely heavily on them.

I'll be there for when they need help, we'll catch up, and laugh. After that, we won't talk for a while so we don't accidentally respark any unnecessary feelings.
