Is it a bad idea to become friends with an ex?

I dated my ex for 6 months and known him for almost 3 years we broke up because he mistreated me, constantly disrespected me, cheated on me with his babymother and told her about our relationship problems we have been broken up for 7 months and he always reaches out to me every few weeks. he asks if we could be friends and i tell him no and then I don’t hear from him for a few weeks. Lately he has been a little more consistent with asking me yesterday he asked if we could meet up and talk. I agreed and when we had our conversation he told me he loves me he doesn’t want me completely out of his life He only left our relationship because his baby mother was hurt that he moved on and she also got a restraining order against him when she found out he moved on and would only allow him to see there child if he got back into a relationship with her. He claims they are not together anymore and they are coparenting and now he’s asking if we could be friends should I just cut him out my life for good or give him a chance at being my friend

You move on and don't look back.

And like all movies and fantasies, once you look back, things change and time reverses. Except now, you re-live the past again with baggage.

This is a messy situation. Honestly you should walk away from it. It won’t be easy for you to do that but you’re still pretty young and you will heal from it. Staying friends with an ex feels good because they’re familiar and you’re afraid to lose that person you bonded with, however it leads to a lot of pain and makes it harder to heal

Honestly their situation seems messy and you should want no parts of it. A restraining order where it can be violated on her terms only sounds rather very crazy.
