Would being friends with an ex a good thing?

I (25F) broke up with my ex (26M). It was an amicable split and we both understand why the relationship failed and what improvements need to be made in order to ensure success if we were to give it a second chance. We went through a period of no contact and the initial conversation following it was pleasant and opened up my mind more about reconnecting... until the topic of our breakup came up and brought up a lot of emotions. Despite that, the conversation made me miss the friendship aspect of our relationship but it still pains me to interact with him since things are still fresh. He is pitching for friendship and seeing where things go but it puts me in such an uncomfortable spot since this is the first time I didn't see things as black or white when it pertains to being split.
