Can you respect a woman who chooses a man over her own child?

Friend of mine has an 8 year old son. She filed for divorce from her husband and in the process met a new guy. As of today, she has been living with her new guy for a month and left her son with his father.

She told me she wants to have a baby with her new guy.

Personally, I find this whole situation disguising. I can't believe this new guy is ok with her leaving her child for a month.

What do you guys think?

I think it's very irresponsible but a lot of single mothers seem to be like that in my experience (actually all of them in my personal experience). They often seem overwhelmed by everything and want a man to help out, or at least make her feel desirable again.

I don't think it's anything nefarious but it's like they are a bundled mess of emotions and often working multiple part-time jobs while trying to take care of children and just totally overwhelmed. Then to find a man who finds them attractive despite all that might seem like a miracle and they can get swept off their feet.

I can empathize with it even though it tends to make them very irresponsible.

I get what you mean. However, this woman has a husband whom she is divorcing. She is also college educated and makes good money.

Something depressing I saw the other day is a video of little James' mom twerking in front of a random guy. He's just a little boy. I'm sure there are some really responsible single mothers out there but I find so many horrible examples.

Yes and no. If she knows she isn’t a good mom, that she’s mentally screwed up or something and knows this isn’t in the child’s best interest, I get that. So the child is probably better off w the father assuming he isn’t a basket case himself. But w this situation sounds like she’s just about her happiness. So no I couldn’t respect that. If that’s the case the dude she’s a too should realize that. That if she’s doing that to her own child what’s not to say she’s do it to theirs as well if she left him.

Absolutely not. I just told my daughters this story last night. I always hated bridges. I always thought they were going to collapse and as a kid I would imagine how I was going to save my little sister. I told my girlfriend this at some point. I was taking her to meet my mother and we had to cross one of the big bridges in New York City. She noticed my knuckles were white and I was breathing funny with anxiety as we were stuck in traffic on the damn bridge. She just said out of nowhere. "If the bridge collapses you're going to have to save yourself, I'll be too busy saving our kids" that's when I realized I had to marry her and have kids with her.

To completely abandon is frowned apon but the general idea of putting your mate first is actually how it's suppose to be. That doesn't mean it's ok to neglect your child though. But in an upside, usually people that completely abandon their kids would do more damage mentally to their kids probably anyways trying to "parent"

I can respect her decision if done correctly. I endorse the know questions asked law that allows mothers to leave babies with fire stations or police and just walk away. Finding dead babies who starved to death or were eaten by animals is always disturbing.
