Does the dumpee normally fight back the breakup when they’re being broken up with?

I just got out of my first relationship 16 days ago and when my ex said that he wanted to break up with me I just said “ok, why”. He was shocked that I wasn’t angry that he wanted to break up. I was sad and I told him later that day that I had feelings for him and that the breakup sucked after he sent a text message asking if there was anything he could do to make me feel better.

I didn’t argue against his decision because I can’t force him to be with me if he doesn’t want too. He told me his reason for wanting to break up with me was because he has a sick father and he thought that his feelings for me were getting in the way of his goal to care for his father. He also felt that I wouldn’t be happy with him due to his lifestyle. He felt that he couldn’t do that and be with me at the same time.

our relationship was long distance and we only dated for 4 days before we broke up. I know it sounds silly but I really did like him even though we didn’t know each other for very long. He said that he had feelings for me too and that the decision to break up with me was hard to make.

From what you described, it doesn't sound like you did anything wrong by not fighting back or arguing when he broke the news. A lot of times people do get emotional in the moment, but staying relatively calm was probably better in the long run. He knew where you stood with still having feelings for him after.

It was actually really mature of you to accept his reason for needing to focus on his dad right now too, even if from the outside his lifestyle concerns seem kind of flimsy after such a short time dating. Long distance definitely adds more challenges.

The good thing is it doesn't sound like either of you wanted it to end necessarily. So who knows, maybe down the road after some space things could be different if his situation changes. But for now, give yourself time to heal - keep busy with friends, try new activities, treat yourself. A rebound isn't always the healthiest. You got this, girl!

I think you handled this situation best because you are correct, you can’t control what he wants. 4 days is not nearly enough for you to overreact about a break up, as you haven’t even gotten to the good parts of a relationship.
