Why does my ex still talk to me and my family?

My ex and i broke up almost 2 years ago and he still checks on me and my parents. While I do not necessarily mind the check ins and small conversations, I do find it nerve wrecking since I still love him. I’m not sure how he feels (I would like to know) but I think this keeps me from moving on completely.

A friend tried to set me up with a guy who had been newly divorced once... During the meetup he kept mentioning a scenario that sounds just like what you're describing... He'd stop in, check on the family, check on the exwife, blah... blah... blah. Every major holiday (and a few of the minor ones) he was right there with them... He said they were the only people he really knew in the country... and as he talked about them I realized he was still head-over-heels in love with this ex. So I told our mutual friend that I was so happy to meet up but that I would be heading home... and I wished him luck... which he did have: He and his ex got back together about a month after that day because he realized on his own that she was the only one for him... and she must have finally realized the same.

You're perhaps too young for your story to end like this one did, however you can probably tell from your own description that his intention is to stay close to you and your family... perhaps waiting to get back with you.

Personally, I've always felt that exes are exes for a reason... and that getting back together with an ex is a mistake... however you're the only one who knows what's in your own heard... and you know this guy better than any of us do... you have to determine what's best for you.

I broke up with him because I felt like he deserved better. At the time I really loved him but I came from a toxic background (him, not so much and I was his first girlfriend) and I was also still healing from past trauma.

It seems he still cares about you. You're just gonna have to man up, sit down with him and tell him exactly what you just told me. Everything

And in the off chance that he don't like you. Well cut his ass off and he shouldn't be checking on your family anymore, cause it's weird for someone who don't like you to be doing that

We broke up because I wasn’t ready to be in a relationship at the time. I really loved him but I didn’t fully heal from my past trauma so i ended it
