Why do some exes downgrade horribly?

My friend recently broke up with her ex , they’re both in their 30s and she is absolutely gorgeous. He then started seeing a woman 20 years older than him, married and no offence , ugly and crazy. Can also barely speak English. And I call her ugly not only because of her looks but because she reached out to my friend manipulating her and questioning her about him, when she’s 20 years older than her and should be focusing on her husband.

Why would a man want to embarrass himself like this and downgrade so badly?

Sometimes people like that are working out their own personal issues, so the person they downgrade to is more compatible with whatever those issues are.

Other times, it's an indictment on how bad the old relationship was that they've decided to go in a totally different direction for some personal relief.

Yo you she’s everything you say. More than likely you’re mad for your friend. To him it’s something else. Leave him alone. They’re no longer an item. You both need to move on. He’s a grown man he can make his own decisions.

i would never do that, i would always make sure it's an upgrade, even if it's short-term. as long as he gets wind of it, that's all i need. one of my few high school-ish habits i have left

Any port in a storm. It sounds to me like he was hurt, lonely, and took a heavy blow to his self-esteem, and clung to the first person to show him any kind of affection. I haven't made that mistake, but good lord have I been tempted to.
