Am I an idiot for still being friends with my ex?

He broke up with me 3 weeks ago. But wanted to remain friends but he barely responds to me unless he's at work and bored or has something to say about himself.

But when he's home he barely responds to me and even comes off cold in his responses if he does respond.

I'm just sick of it. I feel like he's getting all of the benefit and I am just left hoping that one day he will change his mind if I keep being friends with him. But I'm starting to think that's never going to happen.

I know I need to give up hope and move on but it's so hard letting go especially when the break up was so sudden.

If you want more and that isn’t what’s on the table then don’t settle for this. That’s just playing yourself. You are in no position to be a friend right now anyway because you still have hope for the future.

Honestly, you don’t have to say anything. Just stop responding or gradually pull back until he gets the message. I know letting go is hard, I know you have hope still and sometimes the idea of having some part of him is better than nothing at all. But the price is too great, trying to keep him in your life. It’s mentally draining, emotionally taxing and beneficial to only one person here and it isn’t you. Protect yourself and your heart, he sure isn’t gonna do it for you.
