How to breakup peacefully with my boyfriend?

We have been dating for a year now and I'm into some dark romance stuff and he doesn't like that. I even asked him if we could recreate some of the scenes in my books. He refused. I said okay even if we don't have the same fantasy. He's more a traditional type of lover, he doesn't like to talk during sex or laugh if we did something stupid. He doesn't believe in aftercare. Everytime we argue, he just shuts down and I'm always the one who apologizes. I know we're not compatible and I wanted to try. I thought I could handle it but I guess I can't. I want to breakup with him without it turning into a whole mess. How should I do it?

But if you think he can be an adult. Just tell him everything you just typed in that paragraph. About how y'all aren't compatable, like romance differences, lifestyles all that shit.
