How much should I ask for?

My ex slept with me while knowing he had STD symptoms that he hadn’t got checked.

He is willing to pay me compensation quietly to avoid court.

I asked for $1000 and he has asked if he can pay $500 saying $1000 is unreasonable.

Unfortunately I’m suffering from the same symptoms and though I’ve been cleared of an STD , my doctor has told me I have an unusual bacterial growth that was most likely passed to me through sex which my ex owned up to.

Is $1000 for a quiet settlement unreasonable?
