For those who have experienced a hard break up/divorce, what was the hardest part for you?

Maybe it was getting the initial realization that things were ending? Maybe it was splitting up your combined resources or custody for those who have pets/kids? Maybe it was saying goodbye for the last time? So, what was the hardest part for you?

@Ez-Bri-Z_v2 The hardest part for me was losing the 'extended family" and everyone that went along with that, and once again being alone at night and once again starting to develop and keep others around me to till the void left behind.

Losing my relationship with my son.

The years of decline in the relationship where we still got along well but I was never his main priority, he wasn't interested in really going out, talking or having sex anymore so I started feeling worthless, then after the breakup having to go back to my parents as a failure, when they told me not to be with him in the first place because he lived in a different country. He is still friendly with me now and gives me money sometimes because he still cares about me a little.. but just the fact I lost my virginity to him and wasted my youth and basically 15 years with him to where I feel I am now gonna be forever alone, hurts the most. I suppose I fucked up more in the relationship than he did.. but I guess it was because I was always lonely with him and he didn't see me.

We born alone and we die alone.. but meanwhile we can rebuild our life how much we want and how much we need.. you can thrive independently, you are a human being who needs to grow and see it's potential etc by itself.. you just need to discover yourself and invest in yourself, and let yourself dream freely and be with yourself... we sufient enough.. just we need to find out true self and this is by decentering others as main priorities in our life... and know there are so much free resources to grow and which will make you fulfilled.. but this will be possible with changing our mind and the perspective on life and ourselves... anyway hope you got the point.. and no need to say thanks or to reply

Hardest parts were accepting things I didn't know I had to accept, such as:

Accepting that love forever exists only as a last conclusion I could draw, when applicable, immediately before my last breath. Otherwise, love forever can be a wish but not a duty.

Accepting that no one owes me romantic love, it is out of my control/reach, sentiments are not fair, they shouldn't be. Accepting, in return, that I don't owe love to anyone. This freedom is going to hurt somebody, including me, it is unavoidable.

Accepting impermanence, ephemerality, that was very hard to accept, coming from a mental background dealing with absolutes.

The false accusations about me during the divorce. It wasn't just the legal implications. I care about my reputation and what my family and friends think about me. For them to even contemplate that I did the things she said I did was very hurtful.

Realizing that it is okay to love a person you are no longer in love with. It was mutual for the both of us but we wanted to remain friends. There were good times and there were bad times but through it all we still cared for one another and still do. We are still friends even though twenty years have gone by since the divorce.
