What is the psychology behind blocking someone after a breakup?

I just broke up with my boyfriend. It was basically a horrifying relationship with a lunatic. Upon breakup, I told him all the things that were wrong with him, things that I never had the guts to tell him during the relationship. All the evidence of why he was crazy, why he was so difficult to deal with, examples of all the times when he been disrespectful- which I never mentioned to him.

Suddenly, he started insulting me and ended up blocking me. Acted as if I were the ultimate problem in the relationship. I didn't get an apology or compassion but rather anger, insults and a block.

If I found out I was being disrespectful toward a lover, I would feel so incredibly bad and apologetic.
