If I ignore him will I lose him completely?

So my best friend of 5 years became my boyfriend and last week he broke it off we had an amazing beautiful relationship, but in about the last two months of the relationship trust issues came up constantly and we just weren't getting through them (he lives at home still) and his mother just moved out which made his feelings more introverted than usual anyways I was becoming depressed because I didn't know what to do to stop the fighting and was feeling lonely and ill admit I did become more clingy than I usually would, so unfortunately it has ended. It wasn't a nasty break up we didn't really talk about much other than why he felt he needed to break up and I could see where I went wrong but I don't think he saw that he was pushing me away and that he didn't even give us a chance to fix it. I love him with all my heart and I told him I want him to find someone who makes him happy and who loves him as much as I do ... Cause he is a great guy and he does deserve the best and of course he said he wants our old friendship not to be lost.

Anyways to the question I want to know the answer of - as of that night I tried to text him twice and he ignored me even though it kills me not to even make it look like I'm trying or making the effort to show him I do care I decided just to ignore him back and ever since then he is continually updating his fb statuses about how great he is and how he has caught up with old (girl) friends and he has taken up smoking which isn't like him I still haven't reacted to any of them and I don't think it would be wise to ... But I don't know if that's going to push him away even more and make him believe that the break up is also what I wanted as much as he wanted it ... I just don't know ... I don't want to lose him as a friend but I know he won't want me back anytime soon, I just need some help? So guys please anything.

Guys normally push away their ex after a breakup because it's how they cope with their feelings...or more like ignore the problem/feelings. The best thing to do now is to just do things that make you happy, even if it means to do them alone. I find that surrounding myself with friends and family helps a lot. A breakup is hard and you need all the support you can get. With us, we need that. Guys are different and they cope differently. I know you want to still be in his life and remain his friend, but the best thing right now is to be strong and prove to yourself (not him!) that you are not a needy, clingy person and that you don't need a guy in your life to make you happy. He probably is a good guy, but you're also a good person too and you deserve to be happy, just like him. Don't put him high up there when you should be that person on that pedestal. And if later on, after you both get over it, then try the friendship thing.

yes you will.. and again... where are girls finding these jerks? it could be just him, if it doesn't work out, get rid of him and find a better guy-cuz you don't need that jerk-why would you love that anyways?

Well we have broken up so I am rid of him but for someone to be apart of my life that long its hard to just throw all the friendship away. I have to see him on the weekend coming up as a mutual friend is having a party I guess I'll just have to wait and see what he is like.

dont get caught up on one person, move on, or you'll miss your next opportunity (possibly a better one) odds are he won't change
