Will boot camp make him change?

My ex boyfriend of a year broke up with me out of the blue and said he felt my insecurity pushed him away. I've been through therapy for over a month to deal with it and he gave up after 7 days because he was so stressed out about the marines. He said yesterday he "loved me so much it hurt". Its because he wanted to be together but is forcing himself not to because he feels I'll drag him down and thinks I'll be clingy because an ex friend put these ideas in his head. He said he just wants to focus on the marines and doesn't want any girlfriend/not interested in dating anyone so he "flipped a switch in his brain to stop loving me overnight". I find that hard to believe because the night before he broke up with me, he had said " I found a place we can afford, and we can move in, in a few months. We both need to start growing up and be more mature. Were going to raise a family, we can't be stupid or act like 16yr olds. I'm struggling with my two jobs and you need one." Then the next day he just became the complete opposite.

His recruiter and some military friends say in boot camp he'll change and realize he did wrong, and he'll miss me and want to take me back because we were always happy and understanding towards each other, and because he described me as "the one". Do you feel this is true?
