Don't only put face pictures in your online dating profile. Put full-body pictures in there too.

As in, pics that do not show your body in any way. This is a huge red flag to whomever is viewing your profile: 1) People's attention spans are very short (hell it's the Internet, right?) and they will decide very very quickly whether they find you/your body attractive or not, and 2) not showing your entire personage is very telling to the other person of emotional insecurity.

If you only have pics like this, consider taking others.

I have done online dating and have been successful; of the three girls I met, two were attractive as I thought they would be, but one was not and I didn't know ahead of time because I didn't know what I was doing and she was the first one I met. It turned out that she was heavier than she was letting on and heavier than I thought she would be-- only had face pics in her profile. Whether you are male or female, only having face shots is a really good way to not get much attention from many people who otherwise want to know what your whole body looks like. You will get passed over by many people. Due to my experience with the first girl, I, for example, never went on another date or sent another message to any girl that only had face shots. And I am not alone. Many girls do the same if a guy only has facial photos.

I understand your argument and agree with most of it. Note that some dating sites and apps would display full frame pictures as portraits.

Not all date sites and apps are designed the same or display profile photos to visitors the same. You ignore the GUI "feature" the app or site developer displays when user opens the site or app. You assume users are accessing the the dating sites on the same platform (app vs. website) and devices (mobile vs. tablet vs. desktop/laptop).

The rule of thumb is, if the site allows for two or more pictures, your first picture ought to be a portrait. The face, especially the eyes, is a powerful body part that predicts, triggers, and enhances all human interactions.

The face formulates the first impression that determines not only the impression people hold about you but also an abstraction of friendliness, approachability, healthiness, harmlessness, cheerfulness, goodnaturedness, just to name a few.

The second (or at least another) picture on your profile ought to show the length of your body frame. Some profiles make the mistake of having only full frame pictures that capture them at a distant. I want to see the face first. Likewise, it is a mistake to have only portraits on your profile otherwise you're giving me the impression that you are hiding something.

Picture holder differs from one dating platform to another. Upload a full length picture to x and z dating platforms, the chances are both would be displayed differently. More so, both would be displayed differently depending if your initial contact with the picture is from the swiping feature or from the actual profile web interface.

A full length picture appears cropped (portrait-like) if accessing from the swiping feature compared if it's being accessed from the profile interface on some dating sites and apps. This is also true depending whether you are accessing the site from an app or website, or from a desktop or mobile. A case in point is okcupid, plenty of fish, badoo, just to name a few.

Seems logical and truth will come out one day or another unless those that post any pictures really rely on Mr. Ph. Otoshop to write part of the curriculum.

Regardless on how you present yourself and unless you are just on those dating sites to check on others, reality will overtake fiction.

I wonder how many are really posting an unedited picture of themselves, removing a freckle here and there, enhancing a boob or two, erasing those wrinkles and making those eyes a little larger.

It is never good to start with an enhanced picture as that would automatically put the person in the trash (is there such a thing?) if I were on a dating platform.

It would also tell me that that person has an unreliable character and is basically pretending to be someone he/she is not and that is a lack of personality to me.
