How to text a dry/bad texter?

This guy has been texing me for a while now. He always starts the conversation. He has told me how he felt and I feel the same, so we are basically a blooming relationship, only problem is that he is a bad texter. He is so dry at times and when I call him out for it he apologizes because he is always tired from working, like literally always working cause his dad owns a big business he works for. What could I ask him or say to him to keep him a little more into it? We mostly chat online instead of actual texting as I prefer it that way. Is there anything I could do to keep the conversation exciting on my behalf. Or anything I could ask him which might get him a little more excited about texting?

I had this problem for a while too, try asking about things he's interested in or if anything happened at work. if you make it about him, he'll tend to make it about you too
