I strongly suggest to go somewhere where you could both talk to each other, somewhere very calm where you won't have to be quiet and respect some rules (don't go see a movie, you will both end up being interested by the movie and not youselves)

Go on a hike, go to the park, share deep conversations, get to know each other behind your own shells and move with the flow.

I would suggest something simple, like having a walk in a park nearby, sitting down to talk a little and then go home. Don't make it too long. If you're both shy, eating in a restaurant is a place full of possible awkward incomes, including long silences. Don't go to a restaurant for the first date. Keep it simple and not too long.
