I can speak for many males saying this is more than perfectly okay, it even helps us as you give us a push in the right direction. Perhaps we wouldn't have thought about you actually liking us, too, or, shy guys may have not even tried it, expecting to not even get a reply. This is not just okay, it's a big help for us! :)
Nowadays, it doesn't matter who texts first. If you text first, it just shows that you are interested it him and not just a tease. If he was to message you first, you would know he's interested in you. I say you should send it!

Of course it's ok. It's necessary! It shows interest. It can't be one sided or he'll assume you're NOT interested.
It's a nice change when girls put a hint of initiation. It makes guys feel appreciate that where not the only one's putting in effort
I get really upset and lose my shit if a girl texts me first. I text her back all sorts of emojis that would suggest things like "oh, hello" and "I acknowledge you but this isn't a heart, it's a smiley face, bitch."
It's fine as long as it's not like 90% her texting first and me initiating 10% of the time
Finally someone, I wish more girls would do that.
