Are you wrong? No. But, this is the consequence. You rejected him, and now he's moved on. He doesn't need to have his nose rubbed in his failure. He doesn't need reminders that you found him sub-par. You metaphorically kicked him in the balls for making a romantic overture, and rejected the very idea, instead of exploring the possibility.
Let's say there was some guy you really liked in your social circle. You get along very well, and even have heart-to-heart talks over things like break-ups. So, finally, you work up the courage and you asked him out.
He replies "Ew, no; that would be just too weird. I don't think of you THAT way, plus you're a friend of my ex..." Would you still want to talk to him, as if nothing had ever happened?
That's what you did to this guy.

just move on, he is not worth it. But at the same time I understand how he feels, he can't be friends, with you because his feelings for you. Its hard to be friends with your crush.
Not your fault in the slightest. You were honest. He apparently can't handle it (emotionally) to just be friends with you.
It's a little sad, but you did nothing wrong.

No, you don't have to be in a relationship with a guy just because he is nice. You have every right to say i like his personality but he is not my type.
