Disagree. Asking is a major azz kissing move that someone with confidence wouldn’t do. It’s like asking if you can kiss. Lame. Better to keep the hug very little contact type hug (shoulders only) and super short.
On a first date with a girl you've never met personally, a handshake it's better. Some girls may be put off if you hug them. A hug seems more appropiate to say goodbye if the date went well.
Not a hug, thats way too intimate for meeting someone you chatted with for a few days/weeks. I usually do handshakes and yes its super formal but i have no idea what else to do.
This is a question I wonder in general. Often you have to know the person to know what they like best. I guess on a first date a handshake would be good, maybe a hug at the end if you feel that she would appreciate it.
Hug, always hug. Handshakes with a date is just awkward.. If she's comfortable enough with you to go on a date then theyre usually comfortable enough for a quick hug. A quick nice semi tight hug is good.
In Quebec we kiss on both cheechs on greeting. This break the ice as you not only get the embrace but the woman's heat smell and even health. I love living here this is but one reason.

A hug. A handshake would make me feel to distant from you. Just don't hug too long
Hug. Long. Cheek to cheek. Enjoy each others parfum. Move hands a bit over the limit... It's a date, it has to be flirty, provoking, spicy and stay out of any possible friendzone physical contact has to be there and make mutual wish.

When you meet her, ask if you may hug her. Handshakes are too formal, but it's too forward to just go in for a hug without consent

@hahahmm asking to kiss is hot. besides, any guy who touches me without permission will not get another date
If there’s no more date it means you aren’t compatible. Win/win of he wants a woman who wants a guy who isn’t an azz kisser
Depends on how long and well you two know each other
A light hug for sure. Not a full body squeeze. But read her body language first to see if she is amenable.

Neither at the start.
I'd rather a handshake put if the two unless I feel the date has gone so well then I'll initiate a hug bye.

On a date when first meeting. A handshake. During the evening if you feel a rapor. You can go in for a hug.

i’d prefer a casual hug. when i think of handshakes, i think of it being more of a business thing.
That's a really good question and I'm in the same boat as you.
Give her a funnel-web spider
Handshakes are too formal. You do that for an interview not a date. Only go for a hug though if she engages you happily.
i go for a hug. if she acts awkward or distanced during the hug, i know nothing else is gonna happen and it will stay at the one date we had.
neither, I wouldn't make a rule. I'd go with my senses.

If you're on a date the presumption is you like eachother. Hug is a minimum
go in for the hug. it shows confidence and tells her you like her.
Nope, thanks, I don't hug anyone. For girls - sorry keep your distance, please.
Shaking hands? That's a no-no, too. You don't know me, stay away!
