Did I do the right thing by cutting him off or did I overreact?

The guy I’ve been talking to for couple of months didn’t text me for 5 days but I could see that he is active on social media. So when he finally replied I left him on read and cut him off. In his text to me he said that he has really bad WiFi ( he is away for the summer) and puts up stories when he can but was avoiding messages cuz he was too overwhelmed with them and now he finally caught up. This sounds like total bs to me, and even if he was telling the truth it makes me seem like his last priority. Do you think I did the right thing or did I overreact. Also could he be playing me? Thanks for your help, I would really like to hear your thoughts on this situation.
