Guy said that he’s not looking for anything serious, then changed his mind once I said I was looking for a relationship. Should I give him a chance?

I’m on Bumble looking for a relationship. This guy messaged me via IG and asked me why I was on Bumble. I didn’t respond to the question and asked him why he was on Bumble. He said he wasn’t looking for anything serious. I let him know that I was and that we just weren’t on the same page. He then changed and said that we was looking for something serious and long-term, but he hasn’t found it. I then said, “of course, you would say that after I revealed my intentions”. He then said that he “poorly worded things” and that “everything starts off as a friendship”.

My intention was to stop talking to him to avoid potentially having my time wasted. I talked to my friend about this and she said he was right and that I need to give guys a chance. Then again, this same friend wonders why she gets strung along and gets put in the friends with benefits category all the time.

Should I give this guy a chance if I’m looking for an actual relationship?
