Why do guys in high school not like to date girls who are in the grade below them?

I heard a guy tell his friend (both are seniors) to not go for a girl who’s a sophomore. But why it’s only like a 1-2 year difference.

Also should add that it’s fine for them to legally date someone 1-2 years older or younger so why do they prefer not to date younger girls?

I was a Senior and had a crush on a girl who was like 2 grades below me and she rejected me but it seems like to this day, she's never found a guy so it can be anything maybe guys are scared that they are going to get hurt by a girl who's a little younger than them?
