My boyfriend always jokes about my weight, what should I do?

Hi, I'm a 21 years old woman. I’ve a relationship for 1 year. And I love him so much, I'm very happy with him. But there is something that bothers me. He's always joking about my weight. My weight is 158 pounds. I’m an overweight woman and I’m aware of that. I’m also aware that I’ve to lose weight. I've spoken to him before about this jokes. He said he wasn't serious, he was joking. I know he’s just joking, but this kind of jokes breaks my heart. I told him that before , but he continued it. Anyway, then I started to ignore these jokes. But now I realize that as time passes I lose my self-esteem. For example, I am afraid to meet his family and friends. I always think people wouldn't like how I look. I wasn't like this before. I think my insecurity developed with these kinds of jokes and I think this aspect of my relationship is toxic. I don't know what to do. I know if I talk to him he will say the same things. Pls help me :( (and i’m sorry of my English, it's not my native language)

This is a form of emotional abuse disguised as a joke to make you second guess what it really is. It is toxic and undermining.

You've been in a toxic relationship for 1 year, and say that you love someone that undermines you, and as you put it 'breaks your heart'. You've asked him to stop and he has not. Your issue is that you set the boundaries but did not enforce them. It's shocking that you've been feeding yourself self esteem breaking toxicity for a year. It does not matter if the rest of the relationship is ok. You need to get out!

I would not put up with that for even 1 second, let alone 1 year.
