If a guy hasn’t asked to be exclusive after 5 dates should I assume he isn’t interested in me in a serious girlfriend way and move on?

I’ve known this guy for 6 weeks. We’ve been on 5 dates and each date gets better than the last and we enjoy ourselves more. We’ve been having sex since date 2. We both agreed we’d like to see where this could go. Last time I was over at his place and after sex, it was silent and I said “I like you” and he said “I like you too” and I felt good but id, k.
I’m used to guys in my past asking me to be their girlfriend after the second date or like a month in of seeing each other, and now I just feel disappointed because this guy hasn’t asked me to be his girlfriend or even to be exclusive. But he told me he hasn’t slept with anyone since before covid and during covid hasn’t had anyone in his bed or over at his house so I don’t think he’s really going around seeing a bunch of others either? But yeah, I don't know if I should try to move on? My best friend told me if a guy wants to be exclusive he’d ask as soon as he wanted to be exclusive, so I’m feeling bummed.

TL;DR: Open communciation is a basis for good relationship. Six weeks are six weeks, but six weeks are also "only" six weeks. Commitment goes both ways. Comparing your current relationship to the previous ones gets you nowhere, especially if those relationships were not successful.

Now for the longer response.

I completely understand your wish to know where you stand in a relationship. It's natural - you are in unknown area and would like to shine some light at where you are headed. The best way to do so is usually to ask. If you want answers, you need to pose questions.

There are two specifics that you need to keep in mind: first, the guy may not have thought about it himself - so give him time to think and respond. Don't push the answer - after all, you both seem to be enjoying yourself. Second: don't go in expecting specific answer. He may give you a different one - so take it in, and if you are not sure, ask more questions.

Now 5 dates in 6 weeks is - don't take it wrong - a bit short time/sample. When you take total time you spent together, it's most probably less than a full week. My question is: how commited are you to the guy? How much time did you actually spend together outside of dates? How well do you know him? Think about these - and think about what level of commitment do you expect. From what you wrote, you expect a guy to give you some kind of statement of his intent by second date - but that is not always the issue. Oftentimes relationships resemble organic entities - they develop at their own rate, with their own will, and care little for your expectations. Again, 6 weeks may seem like a long time, but it's still just 5 dates in 6 weeks. Maybe the guy is careful, or he just likes to get to know a girl before expressing his commitment. And maybe he already expressed it - but not in a way you would notice. That is also something to bear in mind: not all of us communicate interest/commitment the same way. And some need more time to evaluate perspective relationship - it may even be a good sign that he is not taking it lightly and wants to know you before jumping into commitment.

Last, but not least: your previous relationships ended - which means something did not work out. Give the new one a fair chance and do not expect everything to go the same way - after all, you do not want this one to end the same way, do you? So do not compare; if you are enjoying your time with this person, why not give them the benefit of doubt and just go on with it?

6 weeks with 5 dates.

I think if you plant a rose, it probably not doing well because there is no regular watering, nor fertilizing nor pruning.

Instead of asking if to give up, why not ask if you love him and he loves you in return.

If yes, then pursue it, with at least 5 dates a week, with minimum 3 sex and a lot more lunches and dinners.

Build affection and intimacy.

Thereafter, pull through a few quarrels and disagreements.

You should be able to make a better decision after like 3 more months.

I do need to ask next time I see him, im not sure when that will be but I have to this time. I’ve been trying to ask the last couple times.
Also, I forgot to add he still has his dating profile up (where we met), I can’t tell if he’s been online but nothing has been changed on his profile but we both have our profiles still up..

I mean your sister doesn't know all men on Earth so she doesn't know what she is saying. If you are worried or wondering something that you feel is important then talk with him. Express what's on your mind, he isn't a mind reader. Who knows maybe he already assumes you are together or he is just clueless. Talk with him if you want answers to your questions.
