Do bad texters really exist?

Question

Boyfriend of mine has never been into texting with me. He never responds immediately, even if I text him back immediately after his message.

He always takes at least 20 minutes and often replies also after an hour or 2... He is in his early 20ies and he doesn’t have so much going on in his life but he also doesn’t have friends so it’s not like he’s hanging with them/texting.

Can a guy really love a girl and not be so much into texting with her, we meet few times a week?

I’m definitely not into texting. I don’t really have that millenial/Gen Z communication urgency, I lived half my life where you were either at home to get a phone call or you weren’t, and very often you just couldn’t get a hold of people. We were just happy to have answering machines so we’d even know someone tried to call us. I had a pager in high school, more because it was trendy, but that kind of worked for me. Hit me up, and I’ll get back to you sometime between 5 minutes and 72 hours, lmao. But to quickly old-man-rant, I feel like it was better that way. There’s way too much expectation of all of us to almost instantly respond to everyone. I just don’t care to be in constant conversation all the time. It’s nothing personal, it’s not an indication of how I feel about anyone, it’s just that doing me comes first, and when I’m done doing me, I’ll set some designated time to respond to people. But human interaction will always be on my terms. When I’m public, I’m public, when I’m private, I’m private. And to tie it into your question, I love my girlfriend to death, but I always decide if I’m on the grid at whatever time or not. I gotta be able to disappear when I want, for short periods anyway. Also, sometimes I just forget to text back. I’m not ready to respond and initiate a conversation at the time I read the text, and then I just space on it. It’s just part of the deal if you want me in your life, haha. But yeah, I wouldn’t take it personally that this guy is slow to text back, some of us are just like that, we kind of have designated “office hours” for life when you can contact us, but otherwise, we’ll holler when we holler.

I suck at txting but also if busy with work and distraction then can be ages until I reply.

also if gaming, I leave my phone in another room.

I guess some people live with their phone 24/7 others just cohabit and pickup as and when.

easy way is just have a decent open chat about it, don’t let it cause a rift.

It could be that he has trouble expressing himself when u meet up he probably expresses himself better face to face I sometimes find it hard to express myself through texting I have to think about what to say or it could be that it’s not that important to answer straight away

Women OVER communicate and think texting means whoever they bestowed the gift of vaginal access owes it to them to be listening, fascinated, ALL DAY long, to the minutia of her day. I make it a rule never to immediately text back unless it is an emergency. It encourages this behavior. Its like women never got over passing notes in middle school-notes from guys were brief and purposeful-"wanna hang out after class?" or "Know where to buy any weed?". Girls were multi-page epistles with "code" for various people. Now grown women engage in this behavior. Freaking out when he doesn't immediately text back to every random thought you text bespeaks a huge insecurity. As a practical matter if you want a response ask him a question.

here's something that will blow your mind: Guys are not glued to their phones like girls are and a lot of guys do not enjoy texting at all. I dont know why this such a gender thing. Girls love to chat, guys do it because they have to. Girls invest emotions into texting as if they are actual real life conversations, while guys see it as a tool.
I text my mom more than i do my girlfriend. I use text-chat as a tool like i use my car to get from point A to point B.

It bothered me in the beginning, because I also thought guys were just stringing me along, but you learn after a while that YES, guys that aren't good at or don't like texting ACTUALLY exist. In the case of the guy I'm seeing now, he's an over-thinker when it comes to texts so we don't chat that often outside of dates, but when we do, he actually does try chatting or asking questions. And when we meet up, he's very chatty and we talk like normal. I would say he would be stringing you along if he read your messages, ignored them or just gave 1 word replies lol.

Either option is potentially valid.

As far as not responding right away specifically, I try really hard not to do that to people, but I have been guilty of it as well. I think the main thing you need to do in order to rectify that is to specifically tell him that you want to have an actual conversation with him and ask him if he's available to talk and if it's a good time (and also for how long). That right there will clear up a LOT of misunderstandings.

Also, remember that it is also sometimes okay to reply back and forth sporadically. It depends on the context.

I am a horrible texter. I am often busy, using my hands and pretty much ignore my phone. As far as I am concerned if it's important you can call, if it's a text I consider it low priority and it may be a week or so until I even look at it. I've gotten texts from my kid saying "hay, Im stranded at the mall can you come get me?" Six days later. I saw it 3 days later so I texted back " sure call me when your ready"

I know such people... It's weird for me to share this😂... But once i had a friend.. he didn't know how to text anyone but he really liked this one girl.. he used to tell me how nervous he used to get n all.. when she is in front of him he can talk for long time.. but he just couldn't text.. so i used to text from his phone to his girl 😂.. i somehow fixed their first date.. & now they are a happy couple.. & they really love each other

I just think he's not into texting much, I've had girls who use to text me
and it was just small messages than they stop and one girl always wanted
attention she always claimed to be going to the hospital cause of her asthma
and I know dam well she wasn't it was all for me to give her attention

He sounds like most guys who are not wedded to their phones and do not check their phones constantly, so they do not see the need to immediately reply to texts, this doesn't mean he doesn't love you, men just communicate differently from women if you need him to reply immediately say so in the text.

Many people are like that. There's no "obligation" to text someone back immediately. I too don't live with my phone attached to my hand. If something is REALLY important, use the phone as a phone and call. Otherwise, it can wait.
