What Is Your Opinion About A Person Who Orders The Most Expensive Item On The Menu When You Say It's Your Treat on a date?

I've been on plenty of dates where I pay for dinner. She orders one of the most expensive items with hors d'oeuvres, alcoholic beverages, and dessert.

if you are not prepared to pay for the meal, say at beginning and split it.

we have a friend like this, he always would order stupid stuff, then we let him take us out, the cheapest wine we ordered was £200, I ordered a desert that was £45 for one serving, so I asked for two.

he almost cried when he got the bill.

oh and I had transferred the pre meal drinks to the bill as well, so his beer and brandy combo he ordered in the bar,…. Yep it was on the bill.

As I can expense a lot of stuff, I really hate people taking the piss and will simply tell them no.

Saying that, some of my restaurant bills result in a sit down with finance Director to try and adjust them lol,

I have ad that experience a few times. People who do that are opportunistic and lack consideration of others. I treat it as an invaluable bit of evidence to use in my assessment of whether I should continue dating her.

You might do what one guy did. After she ordered the most expensive meal and wine, he excused himself to go the the restroom and left. She had to pay.

When I go on a date and he says the dinner is on him, I usually order the combo deal because it includes a beverage. And I always ask him beforehand if it's all right.

One time, a friend of my Dad's took him and me out for lunch because it was my Dad's BD. He is a wealthy man and he took us to a fancy restaurant. I opened the menu and wow, it's expensive. My Dad's friend told me I can order anything I wanted. I saw a meal I fell in love with but it was just under $40.00. It wasn't the most expensive meal but the top 10. I asked him if it would be all right if I ordered this and he again told me to order whatever I wanted. So I did.

So I've ordered one of the most expensive meals on the menu. Just once.

If you give control of your money up to someone ('order whatever you want") you can't complain if they spend it however they wish to. You should set limits that are in line with your values/budget/wishes. Or not take them to that restaurant in the first place.

Generally, I don't think it's a good idea to take a date out to a restaurant these days. Better to get to know someone to the point where you think they're worth investing time and money in before you get to that point.

Take them to McDonald's or Denny's then it doesn't matter what they order. Unless you are trying to buy her, there is no reason to take a woman to an expensive place.

They can say that when you don't mean anything to them. Do you thing any of them would say that if Notable Role asked? They wouldn't dare because they know he would say, "Then forget it."

I used to do that with pretty girls a little out of my league. They would accept if it was something expensive they really wanted; then they would flirt with some hot guy. For example, another guy and I invited two pretty college girls to the Sugar Bowl. We paid for everything; tickets, food, drinks a night out in town to the various clubs on Bourbon Street, transportation, separate rooms. On the night before the game, two fraternity guys were in their room, but we weren't invited.

I don't have a problem with this. If I meet a girl for having a good dinner... then I already know her well enough to know that she's worth it.
I don't do dinner dates to impress someone into a relationship with me;
because:
if dinner is the only thing nice about me, then I better seek a therapy :)
