Why is family attached to my boyfriend?

I wanna end things with my boyfriend, but when I talked to my sister about it she was trying to change my mind and made me feel bad about it. Asking me “so then was he just a toy?”. It really annoyed me why they’re not backing my choices. Why?

Sometimes parents can get attached to a boyfriend/girlfriend. They might like him or her and think they would be good marriage material.
My son dated the same girl through high school and into college. She was the cousin of his best friend. I knew her father quite well as we served on a couple of committees together. My wife and I were disappointed that they broke up. From what I understand, her parents were as well.
