Would a guy still ask you on a date if he wasn’t really interested?

Two months ago I met a guy at a nightclub. We chatted for a bit, danced and then we went our separate ways. The next weekend I went back to the same club with my girl friends and he recognized me and we started chatting again. This time we exchanged numbers and he asked me out on a date. We started texting pretty much every other day. So far we’ve been on two dates, and we had a dinner date at his house that ended with us making out. After that he kinda started to seem more distant. I figured it was because he was working extra shifts to have money for his birthday. He invited me to his birthday party but but I couldn’t make it. After that he kinda just went radio silent. I asked him on another date since he had initiated all our previous dates but he turned me down. Some time passes and then he finally asks me on another date, but then he canceled on me at the last minute. He asked me on another date again today, but he seems really uninterested. He doesn’t really have a plan and it doesn’t seem like he cares to make one. He’s giving one word responses to my texts. At first I thought he might’ve really liked me since he was the one who sought me out and he was talking about the potential for having a relationship, but now it just kinda seems like he’s just going through the motions, possibly just for sex.
