It is not normal to expect someone to stay home all day every day. Did you ask him about it? Or are you just constantly checking on him and his phone? I promise you will never be happy having to check all the time, and he will not feel good about the relationship if you are keeping constant tabs. Is there an existing reason that you know of to not trust him? Or have you been cheated on in the past and having "triggered" reactions? These things may help you figure out why you feel the need to check up on him.

You dont trust him and relationships are built from a foundation of trust so you dont have a relationship.
