It's perfectly understandable not to be able to read someone else's signals. Studies have even shown that we foolish humans can't tell the difference between flirting and conversation. If someone mistakes my interest in them and leaves, then realizes it and comes back - that's great. If I still like them (not too much time has passed) then I'd be happy to give them a shot.
