It has really started to bother me that my boyfriend never buys me anything. Not that it’s a big deal or I can’t afford it but sometimes it just feels nice to be appreciated and equally reciprocated. In 4 years, he never got any gift on my birthday, not even a chocolate but expects extravagant stuff when it’s about him. He constantly criticises me, but when he gets on my nerves, he love bombs me and takes me on dates and then leaves no stone unturned to make me realise the money he spent. He gave me flowers twice three years ago and couldn’t stop bragging how expensive they were. Both of us are well off, but he’s only willing to spend when it comes to booking a hotel for the obvious reasons But he spends recklessly when out with his friends or even among the ones he barely knows. I don’t get the double standards, when I address this, he says I compare, when I try to break up, he says I don’t deserve him, then he lovebombs me, and takes me on dates and then the same cycle. I am not cribbing about not getting gifts, but I want to be a receiver too for once and for real. I deserve genuine reciprocation too w/o the price tag involved even if it’s a mere chocolate. Am I overthinking and being petty about the whole thing. Need some genuine two cents!
