you can definitely find someone that you "can" end up really loving. but you won't develop love by knowing someone online. you will always just be able to have infatuation with whatever persona they play online. how someone "really" is, is often a very different story.

So there are love stories of couples who met online and truly found love. These stories are really rare!
Finding someone really likable online is ok but ensure you take another serious relationship offline. In other words meet in person, go on real dates. Spend time with quality time with them. This way you can make better judgment of your and their feelings.

I expect that it is possible to meet somebody online and if it is possible to meet in person and things go well it would be possible. Having a long distance online relationship is probably not possible.
