Is it considered a date if you went out with a guy you weren’t really attracted to?

I went out to dinner with a guy once which I guess was not a success since he decided to unfollow me a month later. I thought it was sort of weird since he was very chatty with me in the beginning, wanting to go sailing together or wanting to watch my presentation which was very weird by the way. Not that it mattered much that he unfollowed since I wasn’t into him anyway. I was more hurt as a friend. In this case did this guy write me off because he was looking for one nightstand? He just seems like the kind of person to do that
