Honestly I don't know what today's acceptable things are in my day no even if we've had text messaging no it wouldn't be appropriate asking someone to spend the rest of their lives with you something you need to do face-to-face that being said I was out on a date one night very nice restaurant watching this young couple a couple tables away she's dressed very nicely he was dressed while he was dressed I guess we'll leave it at that and every time she turned away he'd be rapidly texting under the table I thought it was weird and pointed it out to my date I'm also thought it was weird but as we watched kind of he suddenly got down on one knee next to her and pulled a ring out of his pocket and yes ask her to marry him and she said yes it was very touching and when she was to go to the bathroom I had to ask I went over and quietly asking what he was texting before that he said he was texting you very best friend in the world who thought they should be married too by the way I mean the girl and young man and the friend was helping him get courage to ask the girl my date and I were amused it's not impressed hello as I was paying the bill about them bottle of champagne to celebrate with I don't know I just thought it was very cute but no to ask you to marry him face to face hope this helps good luck

Yeah, no. That’s not taking it seriously at all and misses the significance and importance of the moment. (Plus the reaction and emotions)
Honestly same goes for in a bath bomb or book or whatever else people do. Unless you’re there and then you propose. But if you just give it to her and leave, not okay.

    Distasteful.
But you're 31 so I assume you understand that some people might not have the romantic idea about big proposal. It's probably just something the couple have been discussing about for months if not years so asking to marry the girl over text seems understandable. The one who 'proposed' probably will do it again in person just to seal the deal over a simple date or homemade dinner.

But if it's out of the blue kind of thing, I'd consider the person as rather impulsive therefore, just forget about it.

Sounds like he did this to others but got rejected so now trying on you to see if you say yes.
Text is so superficial. You can copy paste and forward... nothing special about it. It's a shortcut where you tap on the screen for 1 minute.
That doesn't sounds meaningful or deep.

Yes, it gives her a chance to think about it before impulsively replying or feeling pressured to say yes in front of the asker or onlookers, I always thought it was horrible how people do elaborate proposals in public, what if she needs to say no? She has to choose between humiliating someone she cares about, vs lying to herself or getting into marriage earlier than she should have.

Wow - I never thought about that. Makes a lot of sense but, still... no, I can't see it. I mean, you're going to feel pressured, anyway. If there's hesitation, the guy SHOULD probably realize he messed up.

@SweetFyter You can say no when no one messed up.

It takes time to figure out what kind of SO a person wants to marry, and often a couple figure out they aren't a match, but sometimes 1 person figures if out before the other one does, or they aren't finished figuring it out yet.

If I were dating someone, and she proposed before weve been dating for at least 3 years, I'd say no, because I haven't had enough time around her to know if I should say yes or not.

This does not mean she messed up, it just means her standards are different or less than mine, and I met them. Or it means I simply was more of an open book, so she figured me out sooner than I figured her out.

I'm lucky though, I actually know what I want, some people don't even know that, and thats a whole other can of worms that leads to a no.

@SweetFyter Either way, I'd ask by text, because I don't want an impulse or anti embarrasment response, I'd want to know for a fact thats what she wanted, and If i ask her in person I'll sit there questioning if she said yes for me, or because its what she actually wanted.

    NO, of course not!

Any man who proposes over text, you text back this to him:

"Maybe... but you will have to consummate the marriage by text also. Not sure how I am ever going to get pregnant... You might need to change your font."

If you really love a woman ask her in person will mean so much more. You don't necessarily need to get on one knee but women love that shit so put some thought into it. Make it beautiful for both of you. And women should propose to men in person as well same for women make it special for him show them how much you love them and want them the rest of your life

If she knew me we would of already talked about mine and her thoughts upon marriage therefore we would be comfortable with the outcome in the future. Therefore whatever is appropriate would of already been discussed.

Basically my point is here, there would never be a problem of what wasn't appropriate so it don't really matter to answer this nor can this be answered actually without me and her discussing it.
