We've been texting for a couple of weeks and it's always flirty banter. But there has been time where I've caught him online without responding to my text 🤷🏻‍♀️

No, I never viewed this as desperate at all, I have female friends and colleagues who regularly double text me.

I think these conversations end as girls often send a message with no further questions, which guys understand to be them wanting to end the chat, so the guy doesn't respond.

So it's not viewed as desperation or a sign of romantic interest.

Conversation can "die" when nothing is happening. By that I mean maybe you are txting for too long and you are not going toward "finish". Specially if your txting is flirty and you are not going on date or something and just keeping with txting. Someone could take that just like teasing and playing around.

I wouldn’t reply either, if he didn’t respond. I’d also make sure I’m talking to more than one guy, to ensure I pick the best one. But that’s just me 🙂

it could... better to just ask about something that he mentioned the day before... such as... "Hey did your sister find her missing shoe, ear rings, contact lenses?" something from a previous conversation... or,
"I'll be online for a few if you want to chat" then go silent and wait for s reply... It could be Weeks, if he isn't really into you... but at least you'll know

In the example it was normal, but a double text could come across poorly. Just depends on the context.
