Do some girls lie about having a boyfriend?

For example, when they have been talking to a guy a lot for a long time, only to casually bring it up all of a sudden and then never bring it up again. This happened to my friend that's a guy and he told me yesterday and I wasn't sure how to answer him. Thank you in advance!

There was a girl that told people that I was her boyfriend. She made up dates that we supposedly went on. My best friend heard about this and he asked me if it was true. I had no idea what he was talking about.,

I think she liked me. She was a friend of my best friends girlfriend and we knew each other a little bit. Can't believe I just remembered this after all these years.

It has happened a few times to me. I remember one time I was going to this girl's house every night and having sex. A week in to this, she is crying. I'm like what's wrong. She says my boyfriend is cheating on me. Umm, boyfriend?

With my friend, him and this girl that is his friend have been talking for over 1 year and have been having deep conversations, which is what he told me. Out of the blue, she mentions that one of her relatives found out that she was dating someone and that relative didn't hear it from her and that she hasn't told her parents yet. Apparently they have been dating for nearly a month already.
