Question: Do guys lie to say that they have a girlfriend but really don’t?

I am only asking this because this guy I had a crush told me that he had a girlfriend. Yet. I decided to stop talking to him and stop having feelings for him.

So my friend was at this bar that we go to all the time. She was on a date. He apparently saw her and was looking around to see if I was there. I guess he asked one of his friends about me. I am confused. I just need some advice.
