Uhm, I'd say I would look for the same things I look into for a worthy friend and comrade - their honesty and moral fiber, then their qualities and talents, and finally their predisposition towards hard work and constructive self-criticism.
Not exactly a dating situation, but recently I interviewed a young woman who put forward her candidacy for a position in the Information Bureau of our organization. She had a good background and morals, hard worker but was not too willing to self-criticize and admit the mistakes we brought up. Despite her excellent results that got her rejected - she either was too superb to note the mistakes in her work, or dishonest in not admitting them.

I think with everyone it starts with a physical attraction there is no such thing as love at first sight. There is no such thing as a soulmate. There are those who have a idea or fantasy of a soulmate which are the majority of the people who end up in divorces and because their soulmate doesn't live up to the dream that they have in their head. Now there are another group called The work through its scale they are the ones that sometimes benefit from a disagreement or argument because they do take the time to work through things and end up making theirs relationship stronger. So first yes physical attraction has to be there the number two there has to be a mutual interest obviously. Personality is an absolute must and compatibility with personalities and other things in common. When the relationship gets serious things like child rearing and finances all those things come into play. And if you notice I did not mention sex in my list because sex in a relationship is simply a bonus. It does not make or it should not break a relationship. Love first take care of each other secondly and then third intimacy and family.
