It would depend on what was agreed upon. If it's the first (couple) time (s) out, since the guy is usually the one asking, my idea is I'm asking them, so it's my treat. If dating becomes regular, then we'll figure stuff out later. I've also had some dates insist on paying their portion which didn't bother me any. A lot of people believe it to be emasculating to let a woman pay for herself, but a lot of women like to pay their share as a sign of being independent, even if they're dating someone.

Fighting someone on that is just going to 'cause unnecessary issues and potentially spoil a good date.

It depends. Some will pay for the date. Some will want to split the bill. Just always expect you paying your part being the norm and you're good. When it's time to pay just let the guy speak and decide if he wants to pay for your part or not if it was him who asked you out.

You don't owe him anything in return if he decides to pay. However I'd consider paying for the next date in that case.

Nope, I'm such a staunch supporter of equality I'll let her pay the whole bill if she wants. Otherwise I'm splitting it. There are just far too many experiences I've had of women who only had interest in getting a free meal. Then that's when it's time to support equality and walk out the door, she's got it.

To be honest, I usually paid the bill anyway. But some guys don't like to give wrong impressions and see it as a power move.

After all, if she's not invested in the night, then she's not going to want much out of it.
